Text in a PSD looks different

Check fonts, rendering, and editability before flattening or replacing text.

Documentation-based guide

Based on upstream documentation. These steps have not been independently tested in the desktop app; menu labels and behavior may differ by release.

Step by step

  1. Keep an untouched copy

Open a duplicate and compare it with a reference from the authoring app. Record whether the problem is a substituted font, different weight, spacing, line breaks, or an error opening the file.

  2. Check the font

Confirm the required font is installed and that you have permission to use it. A similar family name does not ensure the same font version or metrics. Reopen the application after installing a font if needed.

  3. Choose a reversible fallback

Try a supported local font in a copy. If exact appearance is required, obtain a flat reference from the original authoring app while retaining the editable original. Rasterizing loses text editability.

  4. Create a minimal report

If a small non-confidential sample reproduces the issue, record the app version, OS, font name, expected appearance, and actual appearance. A public issue report is not evidence that every PSD has the same problem.

PhotoCraft is in early alpha. Keep original files and test a copy before relying on it for important work.
