Crop and resize with a clear goal

Choose your composition first, then set the output dimensions.

Documentation-based guide

Based on upstream documentation. These steps have not been independently tested in the desktop app; menu labels and behavior may differ by release.

Step by step

  1. Decide the output

For a square post choose a 1:1 composition; for a landscape cover choose the destination platform’s current requirement. Pixel dimensions describe raster size, not physical print size on their own.

  2. Frame the subject

Open the Crop study file. Select the Crop tool, frame the subject, and apply the crop using the controls in your version. Keep a copy before committing.

  3. Resize once

Use Image Size to set the final pixel dimensions and preserve aspect ratio unless distortion is intentional. Repeated reductions and enlargements can lose detail. Our browser tool is a fallback for resizing flat images.

  4. Check the exported result

Export a PNG or JPEG as appropriate, then inspect the actual output dimensions. Enlarging an image does not recover detail that was absent from the source.
