Export a transparent PNG

Keep the background transparent and verify the file outside the editor.

Documentation-based guide

Based on upstream documentation. These steps have not been independently tested in the desktop app; menu labels and behavior may differ by release.

Step by step

  1. Check the document background

Open the Transparency practice badge. If there is a solid background layer, hide it. A white canvas can mean an opaque white layer or a viewer’s background; inspect the layer stack.

  2. Export PNG

Use Export As and choose PNG. Preserve transparency if your release exposes that option. Save under a new filename to avoid replacing your editable source.

  3. Inspect against another background

View the exported PNG on a dark and light background. Look for white rectangles or halos. Our browser image tool previews transparency on a checkerboard and can render the original SVG to PNG locally.

  4. Keep the source separately

PNG can preserve transparency but is not a layered editing document. Keep a separate layered source if you need to change text or masks later.
